Mweeheehee! Remember how I've been going on about making a Smash Brothers game? Well I haven't just been waxing the fantastic all this time, I've been programming! From these labors are some pictures of my fruits! (Note: DeviantArt typically frowns upon people taking pictures of their fruits and posting them)

Here are three screenshots, yes screenshots of the game up and running, of what I've gotten done and working nicely so far!

First we've got the lead-in to the title screen. This is a little animated opening sequence (not too fancy, mind you) that gives a little backstory to the general Story Mode's plot, flashes you the title, then shows you a few shots from further on in the storymode. The stars in the background twinkle past and pompous orchestral music blasts through it all.

Past the lead-in and the title-screen, we've got the Main Menu! That works too! You've got all of your modes in there, Story Mode, VS. Mode, and Classic Mode give you your fancy storyline, your standard free for alls, and your gauntlet style battles up the roster at random. The selection icons are all twirling, and those franchise icons on the right side actually move about, vanishing and reappearing as they go.

Aaah, one of the more complicated bits, the Custom Music menu screen. Right now I've only got the bare bones of levels working and they're rather ugly at the moment, but here's this. I've got the Animal Crossing level selected, and the game displays all the mp3s in that particular level's files, and you can then scroll the values up and down to change the odds that the song appears. Drop in a new song, and it will pop up in here too. The sliders all have the same value because I've only got one song in the folder at the moment, but generally you could have as many songs as you like and go up and down the list. Those cards on the left of the music selection screen are also used for the level selection later, since I couldn't do a simple menu with tiles because of the addable levels, it's possible to have 500 billion million levels, so I used the cards letting you quickly flip through all the levels you've got.


So there it is, Smash Brothers: Fisticuffs, the first screenshots! Also: Tea Confirmed.

Thanks! Hopefully after Halloween I'll be able to put some more work into it and post another batch!

I yearned for character sprites above all-else, but you did a good job making the menu attractive.

Ay, the sprites will probably be one of the last things you see, as once those pop up, it means I'm pretty much done with the combat engine (or at least getting close)

The next thing I'll be working on is the Character Selection Menu, which will be used by all three modes (VS., Classic, and Story) but I believe I have my design down and ready to go!

Any releases on what the story is, yet? (My guess is that everyone important in Nintendo gets captured and the second-bananas have to rescue them.)

I have the story mostly written already, and no, it's not a second-banana rescue story, but something a bit darker.

Not TOO dark, mind you, but when you realize what's happening it should be a bit unnerving. The characters will act, for the most part, like they have in their games. Sukapon will crack jokes, Stafy will nap and be relatively spineless, Layton will be witty and clever, etc.

Characters will NOT be aware of each other or one another's worlds ahead of time. I.E., Takamaru will have no knowledge of Animal Crossing, and will only recognize Tom Nook as a tanuki at first. Only a few special characters in the story will be aware of the nature of the universe.

I can give away a few little facts, such as which characters encounter each other first.

At the start of Bubbles's story, she'll encounter Stafy. Tom Nook will encounter Takamaru and a mysterious shogun shortly after his story begins. Jill will encounter Lip while chasing Hakkun. Professor Layton and Luke will run into Little Mac, and Andy will run into the Laughing (and fairly frightened) Dog.

Beyond that, I won't be giving away any major plot points just yet :3

Working on it! :P

The parts of it I have working so far are working fantastically.

Next up comes the character and stage menus, and making sure all the data makes sense before I start just trying to impliment my physics engine (the testing of which, btw, resulted in satisfactory SSB-esque bouncy-impacts)

Man, when It's done, I'm gonna make 5 new characters in the create a fighter mode: Earthworm Jim, Rash, BoogerMan, ToeJam and Earl.

...Unless a few of those characters were planned. *Crosses fingers extra tight for EWJ*
